About us:

First Step Community Project is a charity which plays a crucial role in the development and support of young families in East Lothian. The Project provides Early Learning and Childcare for under 5s, as well as educational, vocational and social development opportunities for parents and carers. First Step also provides Counselling, Outreach and a Respite service for families experiencing a period of difficulty in their lives.

About the role:

The Chair has a key role in leading the Strategic Board to ensure the Projects aims and visions are met. This role is in partnership with the Project Manager who has overall responsibility for the operations and day to day running of the Project.

The main duties of the Chair will be to:

-        Prepare monthly Board Agenda’s in conjunction with the Project Manager

-        Chair monthly Strategic Board meetings

-        Lead on the Strategic direction of the Board

-        Ensure that Good governance structure and procedures are in place

About you:

Ideally the Chair will possess the following skills and experience:

-        Significant Leadership experience

-        Knowledge of HR

-        Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

-        Experience of the charitable sector and the role of a Board.

-        Experience/knowledge of companies House and Good governance.

Commitment:

-        At present the Board meets on the final Thursday evening of each month from 6-7:30pm

-        Monthly meetings with the Project Manager

-        Attendance at our Annual General Meeting, usually mid-November
