Responding to Disclosure of Rape and Sexual Abuse

What is this training?

This training will focus on developing an understanding of the extent and nature of sexual violence including an exploration of myths and attitudes towards sexual violence in society. Participants will develop an understanding of trauma responses, how they can present and how to best respond to disclosures including an understanding of how relevant services such as Rape Crisis can support survivor.  

 

Who is this learning for?

This training is aimed at people working in East Lothian or Midlothian, who would like to feel more confident in their responses to survivors who disclose sexual violence.

 

Are there any pre-requisites for attending this course?

Applicants must have a firm grounding in Violence Against Women and Girls by either having completed ‘Improving our Practice on Violence against Women and Girls: Spotlight on Domestic Abuse’ or an equivalent VAWG face-to-face training, and also the Domestic Abuse Awareness Raising Tool.

 

What are the learning outcomes?

Participants will be able to:

·         Understand the impact of sexual violence and identify trauma responses in survivors

·         Respond to survivors' disclosures appropriately, empathetically and confidently

·         Identify risk factors relating to vulnerable adults and children; and

·         Inform survivors of the service available to them and make a referral

 

How will the training be delivered?

This training will take place in person at Musselburgh East Community Centre, Haddington Road, Musselburgh, EH21 7PT.

Speak to your line manager about whether this course is suitable for your role and level of experience.  Demand for this course will be high, therefore you are required to seek your manager’s approval, ensure that you are available on the day, and that you have protected time to attend before applying.  You can then apply by completing the form below. 

 

The closing date for booking on this course is Tuesday 30th January. Applicants will be notified shortly thereafter if they have been allocated a space on this course.

 

Note: This course counts towards the Continuous Professional Learning requirements (Adult Protection) for registered social service workers.
