OSCR Ukraine guidance for charities and the public

The war in Ukraine has moved many Scots to want to help those affected by the war. People all over the UK are donating time and money to charities helping the Ukrainian people.

OSCR has produced two new pieces of guidance to support the public and charities at this time.

1. Guidance for donors: Safe methods of giving support

This guidance includes information on safe ways to help, including:

·       Donating to established charities

·       Organising fundraising events

·       Staying in the UK

2. Guidance for charities: What should charities do in response to the war?

This guidance covers three areas charity trustees should be considering in response to the war in Ukraine:

·       Supporting the Ukrainian people – how charities can support Ukraine, considerations around charitable purposes and the importance of suitable financial controls.

·       Reviewing IT and cyber security arrangements – the need to review IT systems based on guidance provided by the National Cyber Security Centre.

·       Awareness of the sanctions regime – the importance of remaining aware of the UK sanctions regime if your charity has any interactions with Russian organisations or individuals.
