ESES Communities Visit VCEL

We recently had the pleasure of a visit from the lovely folks at Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal!

The Deal is a £1.4 billion Scottish and UK Government investment to accelerate growth, create new economic opportunities and meaningful new jobs that will help to reduce inequalities. The Deal funds a community benefits portal, through which local charities, community groups and good causes can submit specific community benefit requests. These can range from new equipment, to funding for an outing or activity.

Carla (one of our Community Engagement Partners) has been working closely with Katharine and Claire over the last few months, providing links between ESES and our partners across East Lothian. Katharine and Claire’s visit was a wonderful opportunity to give them a taste of some of the outstanding work happening in Tranent. A tour of the VCEL office was followed by a trip to Heugh Community Garden, and finally a quick stop at Fa'side Community Kitchen. Both the Garden and the Kitchen are beloved by their communities and we were thrilled to have the chance to show off a little bit of what they do.

A big thank you to Lorraine at Heugh Community Garden and Fiona at FCK for their hospitality. We are so grateful to both Katharine and Claire for coming to visit, and we are excited for what the future holds.

You can learn more about ESES's visit on their website.
