Carolyn's Story

I volunteer at the Hollies Community Hub in Musselburgh.

My association with the Hollies as a volunteer started in October 2018

When my late partner Alex passed away from the effects of vascular dementia in 2018, the abundance of empty time was beginning to weigh heavily. When an opportunity presented itself to come into the Hollies as a volunteer I readily accepted.

My time as a volunteer allows me a sense of giving back for the support I received when Alex attended the lunch club for 18 months, providing me with much needed respite and time to simply breathe.

Challenges are ever present, including how can I make a more effective contribution to the Hollies? Do I need to look beyond my comfort zone for ideas to improve our outcome?
