LOCAL & NATIONAL GOVERNMENT

Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund - Year 2 funding announced: funding for Year 2 of the Fund - £15 million for 22/23 - has been fully agreed and has been announced by Kevin Stewart, Minister for Mental Wellbeing, by news release on Saturday. This has been announced ahead of Mental Health Foundation’s Mental Health Awareness Week (9-15 May) which focuses on social isolation and loneliness. NEWS RELEASE

Covid Stay at Home Guidance: From Sunday 1 May public health advice will change to a ‘stay at home’ message replacing self-isolation for people who have symptoms or have tested positive for Covid-19. People who have symptoms of Covid-19 and who have a fever or are too unwell to carry out normal activities will be asked to ‘stay at home’ while they are unwell or have a fever.  They will no longer be advised to take a PCR test. The changes, part of the Test and Protect Transition Plan which was published last month, will also see all contact tracing ending. As previously announced, testing for the general population will end on 30 April with test sites closing at that point too.  However, testing will remain available to certain groups in order to protect high risk settings, support clinical care and for surveillance purposes. You can find out more about the new guidance here: STAY AT HOME

Shielding: The Highest Risk List – formerly known as the Shielding List - will be formally ended on 31 May, as a result of the success of the vaccination programme and the introduction of new treatments for COVID-19. SHIELDING

Extension to Scotland’s Census: Householders across Scotland will be given an extra four weeks to complete their census returns. Over two million households have already completed the census – more than 77% of the total. National Records of Scotland (NRS) has offered the extension until the end of May to ensure everyone has the opportunity to complete their return and help shape important services in their community. Around 68,000 households have begun their census returns online but have not yet completed them and a similar number of requested paper forms have yet to be returned. Every household is legally required to complete their returns and Scots are reminded that failing to do so could result in prosecution and a fine of up to £1000. CENSUS

An appealing prospect? Online event exploring ideas for an appeals process for participation requests:SCDC is inviting community organisations, public bodies and other interested organisations and individuals to an online event on 11thMay 2022, 9:30-2:30pm exploring how participation requests – a way that communities can request to work with public bodies to improve outcomes or services – could be supported by reviews or appeals. The purpose of this online event is to share our findings so far based on the deliberations of our working group. This group met twice in February 2022 and consisted of both community organisations with experience of making participation requests and public agencies who deal with participation requests. Draft findings have focused on principles behind an appeals mechanism and proposals for both local reviews and appeals to Ministers. There have also been draft proposals around improved practice guidance for participation requests and discussion regarding other forms of scrutiny. This event will offer the chance to discuss these findings and also to further shape them before they are brought together and fed back to the Scottish Government.MORE INFO
