Assessing risk and safety planning for domestic abuse

What is this training?
This multi-agency training aims to develop your confidence and skills in supporting victims/survivors who may be experiencing domestic abuse and honour-based abuse.
We will cover: domestic abuse in Scotland and our local context; person-centred, trauma informed support in the context of domestic abuse; assessing risk and safety planning with survivors (including SafeLives practice tools); and sources of support.
Who is this learning for?
This training is aimed at team leaders and frontline workers working within East Lothian and Midlothian who are supporting people who may be experiencing domestic abuse and honour based abuse.
What are the learning outcomes?
Participants will be able to:
· Understand the risks from domestic abuse from the survivor’s perspective;
· Carry out a risk assessment, including making use of the Domestic Abuse, Stalking and Honour Based Violence Risk Indicator Checklist (DASH RIC); and
· Develop an Individual Safety and Support Plan (ISSP)
· Make use of referral pathways for high risk cases such as Marac and other agencies.
Are there any pre-requisites for attending this course?
A pre-requisite is having a firm grounding in Violence Against Women and Girls, therefore participants should have watched the Domestic Abuse Awareness Raising Tool video and have attended ‘Understanding Violence Against Women and Girls: Spotlight on Domestic Abuse’ training.
Who is delivering this training?
This training is being delivered by Jillian Elliott, Service Manager, and Brooke Young, Independent Domestic Abuse Advocate (IDAA), Women’s Aid East and Midlothian.

You are required to seek your manager’s approval, ensure that you are available on the day, and that you have protected time to attend before applying.
